How to choose
- Hardshell vs soft-shell: hardshells open in seconds and shed snow load — pick one for winter and frequent stops. Soft-shells give more sleeping room for the money.
- Match it to your roof: check the confirmed-fit column and your dynamic roof rating before you buy.
- Think about the season: sub-zero Spiti and Ladakh runs want the heavier canvas and four-season builds.

Rooftop tent comparison FAQs
The questions we get most when buyers are deciding between our hardshell and soft-shell tents — answered with the real range, weights and prices.
Choose a hardshell if you value speed and snow load. Clamshell models like the CampTop Aero-V and the fully automatic AutoNest 120 — which opens and closes in under 60 seconds — pop up in moments, shrug off hail and UV, and keep a low, aerodynamic profile for winter and frequent stops. Choose a soft-shell like the CampTop 300Lux if you want more sleeping room for the rupee; soft-shells fold out wider over the vehicle and generally give you more floor area at a lower price.
The Leopard41 is among the lightest in its class at roughly 41 kg, and the CampTop 300Lux comes in around 53 kg on an aluminium honeycomb base — both are easy to lift onto a compact 4x4 or crossover. The FeatherLite is built specifically for lightweight, modular use on smaller vehicles, crossovers and EVs. For a Suzuki Jimny in particular, weight and a low closed profile matter most, so a featherweight model is the safe starting point.
Two checks. First, match the tent to the 'Confirmed fit' column in the table above and to a compatible crossbar or platform. Second — and this is the one people miss — compare the tent's weight plus its occupants against your roof's DYNAMIC load rating (the moving figure), not the static rating. A 41–63 kg AdventureX4x4 tent plus two adults is well within most ladder-frame 4x4 roofs, but always confirm your specific vehicle and rack before you buy.
Yes. Every AdventureX4x4 rooftop tent is built for Indian cold and proven on routes from Spiti to Ladakh. The all-season thermal-control mattress is designed to stay warm in sub-zero conditions, DarkShield fabric blocks harsh sun and weather, and models such as the CampTop 300Lux include dedicated heater ports for a portable heater so you can camp through Himalayan winters. For repeated sub-zero runs over passes like Kunzum or Taglang La, lean toward the heavier four-season builds.
The range runs from the CampTop 250 at ₹76,990 up to the flagship Bison61 at ₹204,990 and the automatic AutoNest 120. Stepping up the range typically buys faster deployment (manual struts, then full one-touch automatic), tougher one-piece aluminium shells and honeycomb bases, larger interiors — the CampTop 400Max offers a 7 ft x 7 ft sleeping area — and creature comforts like sky windows and integrated dimmable LED light bars. Cheaper models still get the same cold-weather DNA; you mostly pay for convenience, space and shell construction.
All AdventureX4x4 rooftop tents sleep two adults comfortably, and the larger soft-shells such as the CampTop 400Max stretch to a 7 ft x 7 ft floor that suits families or taller campers. Each tent ships with a mattress and a detachable telescopic ladder for access; the exact reach and included accessories are listed on each product page, which you can open from the table above.
