The best snow chains in India for most drivers are the automatic, self-tensioning TractionX AX chains — they keep their own tension as you drive, are designed to be ABS-compatible, and hold grip where cheaper chains slip on a Spiti ice patch. If you want the lowest price and do not mind stopping to re-tension, the manual TractionX MX chains do the job for less. The single most important thing is buying the right SIZE for your tyre. Here is how to choose — and how to size them.
Sized by your tyre, chosen by how often you drive in snow. Prices are live; confirm the size against your exact tyre.

Automatic TractionX AX chains are self-tensioning: once fitted, they keep their own tension as the chain settles and the tyre warms, so you do not have to stop on a cold, exposed descent to re-tighten them. They are ABS-compatible and the easiest, safest choice for anyone who drives in snow regularly.
Manual TractionX MX chains give you the same biting grip for less money, but they need you to drive a short distance, stop, and re-tension once the chain has bedded in. If you only see snow occasionally and you do not mind the stop, the MX is the value pick. For frequent high-altitude winter driving, the AX is worth the difference.
Snow chains are not one-size-fits-all — they are matched to your exact tyre, and that is what the AX/MX number means. The wrong size simply will not fit, or will not hold. A Suzuki Jimny on its stock tyre takes the MX120; larger rigs step up through the MX140, MX160 and MX180, and the automatic line runs to the AX200 and AX220 for the biggest tyres on a Fortuner, Hilux or Land Cruiser. Check your tyre size before you order — use our snow-chain comparison, your vehicle's build guide, or ask us and we will confirm the size for your exact rig.
Chains are for snow and ice, not tarmac. Keep your speed under 40 to 50 kmph with chains fitted, avoid bare asphalt wherever you can, and take the chains off the moment the road clears to dry road — running them on dry tarmac wears the links fast and hammers your driveline. After use, rinse off the road salt and grit, dry them fully before storing so they do not rust, and a light oil before long-term storage keeps the steel and the AX tensioner working smoothly.
We are an Indian overland outfitter, and we test the TractionX range where it has to work: the ice of a Spiti or Ladakh pass, the -25C cold that snaps cheaper chains, and the long descents where tension and ABS compatibility actually matter. Founder Dinesh brought a decade of Himalayan overlanding to the brand before founding AdventureX4x4 in 2024 — and a chain earns its name only after it has held grip on a real cold-season run.
Before you buy
The automatic, self-tensioning TractionX AX chains for most drivers — they hold their own tension and are ABS-compatible. The manual TractionX MX chains cost less if you will stop to re-tension. Either way, buy the size that matches your tyre.
Automatic (AX) chains self-tension as you drive, so they are easier and safer on a long cold descent; manual (MX) chains are cheaper but need you to stop and re-tension once they have settled. For frequent high-altitude winter driving, go automatic.
Snow chains are sized to your exact tyre — that is what the AX/MX number means. A Suzuki Jimny takes the MX120; bigger rigs run up to the MX180 or AX220. Check your tyre size against ours, or see our snow-chain comparison.
Yes — TractionX chains are designed to be ABS-compatible. Confirm the exact fit for your vehicle before a winter trip.
Yes, but the cold makes steel and rubber contract, so chains can loosen. Add the TractionX Spiders retainers to hold tension on a deep-winter Spiti or Ladakh run.
Keep under 40-50 kmph, avoid bare tarmac where you can, and take them off the moment the road clears to dry asphalt. Rinse off the road salt and dry them before storing so they do not rust.
